Nowadays, the security assessments airports make must include threat level evaluation, criticality analysis, vulnerability assessment and impact evaluation. The security plan that results from this evaluation must include a risk management strategy that covers the problematic areas identified in the security assessment.

Current security plans are required to put the spotlight on one area which previously had drawn little attention: the scrutiny of employee behavior. After several cases in which illegal behavior by specific employees led to security gaps, modern security plans often consider monitoring to detect atypical staff behavior.
