BSC-CNS to Lead the AI Factory
with €174 Million
Barcelona has become one of the seven cities chosen to host an Artificial Intelligence Factory (AI Factory) in Europe, an innovative project that will position the city as a benchmark in the development of these disruptive technologies. The European Commission approved the project this Tuesday, which will be led by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS) and is set to launch in 2025, with the goal of being fully operational by the end of that same year.
This ambitious project has a total investment of €174.09 million, primarily funded by the Government of Spain, the Generalitat of Catalonia, and the European Commission. The Generalitat will contribute €14 million, while the Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities, will provide €61.76 million. An additional €98.33 million will come from the European Commission, which will oversee the European high-performance supercomputer network driving the creation of AI Factories.

A step towards the forefront
of AI in Europe
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS) will host this AI factory, which will not only benefit the research community but also allow companies, SMEs, and startups to access supercomputing infrastructure, democratizing access to AI innovation. This artificial intelligence factory is a crucial step in positioning Spain as a leader in the AI field and fostering public-private collaboration in the development of research and development (R&D) projects with an impact on science and technology.
